The Earth, seen from somewhere that is not the Earth. On 24 December 1968 the crew of Apollo 8 came around the far side of the Moon and photographed exactly this by accident — the shot was not on the flight plan, and it became the picture that changed how people talked about the planet. This is that view cast into a 6 by 4 inch block of resin and lit from below. The planet is a solid opaque sphere, so it is not glowing: it is blocking the light, which is why it reads as lit from one side, the way a planet actually is.
